IMPORTANT: Sizing Instructions
Our Sunhats are one size (58cm / 22.8in) fits all and they are intended to be loose fitting, they are not intended to a perfect fit like a “fitted hat”
Instructions for how to STRETCH your new sunhat:
Spray the natural grass hat with water or submerse it in water. Pull the hat around a round object the size you desire the hat to become and let it dry inside where temperature is low. High heat will cause the hat to shrink, so it should dry in temperature less than 85F. If you do not have an item the size that you desire the hat to be, you can pull the dampened hat onto your head several times to stretch, and then let it dry in controlled temperature less than 85F.
Instructions for how to SHRINK your new sunhat:
OPTION 1: Submerge the natural grass hat or spray with water. Place the hat in direct sunlight where the temperature is hot. High heat will cause the hat to shrink, so it should dry at a temperature greater than 100F. If the sun is not hot enough, you can place the dampened hat in an oven at 110F to let it dry (never exceed 120F). Occasionally check the hat to determine if it has shrunk the proper amount to be the size that you desire. If the hat is still too large, moisten again and place it back in the sun or oven. Depending upon how much shrinkage you desire, you may have to do the shrinking process 2 to 3 times. In the event the hat shrinks too much, you can follow the above instructions for how to stretch a sunhat.
OPTION 2: You can use hat sizing tape if you prefer an easy and quick method of reducing the hat fit.
SIZING TAPE INSTALLATION DIRECTIONS:
- PERMENENT PLACEMENT: Unfold the sunhat headband. Cut a strip of sizing tape about 4-8” and place underneath headband inside your hat. You may need to place strips on either side, or front and back of the hat depending on the shape of your desired fit. Once it feels correct, remove the paper back of the tape to permanently install the hat tape. Apply more strips of tape as needed to achieve your desired size.
- TEMPORARY PLACEMENT: For a temporary fit follow the above instructions, except do not remove paper back so you can later move the tape if your head grows or the hat shrinks. (recommended option)
