Some days you wake up and everything just feels wrong. "Alicia Has a Bad Day" by Lisa Jahn-Clough gets it — and so does Alicia.

Alicia is usually the kind of kid who dances very fast and stands on her head. But today? Today is not that day. Armed with her trusty companion Neptune and a series of wonderfully quirky remedies — moping in her favorite chair, writing in her notebook, trying everything she can think of — Alicia takes her bad day head-on with a spunky spirit that's impossible not to root for. And just when it seems like nothing will work, a delightful surprise turns everything around.

With deliberately childlike paintings that put a comic edge on a truly rotten mood, this is a book that makes kids feel seen — and maybe even laugh a little at the absurdity of a really, truly bad day. A perfect companion to Grumpy Monkey and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, with a charm that's entirely its own.

📣 What Critics Are Saying

  • "Funny and original."Kirkus Reviews

  • "Deliberately childlike paintings put a comic edge on a terrible, rotten, very bad day. Those of, shall we say, artistic temperaments may find a kindred spirit in this debut book's scowling narrator."Publishers Weekly
